*yawn* hello! :o) it's that super time of the year again.. right after finals when i can sleep and sleep and catch up on all the zzz's that i missed out on during finals :o) it's been nice being at home again (i flew into sd on sunday..) even though it's been really rainy and windy here, and the power at our house has been reallllllly flaky (on and off all night last night, and earlier today too!) yeah, we actually read by candlelight last night (well, more like a halogen bulbed camping lantern, but the effect was simliar to candlelight :o) hehe..)
anyways, i just wanted to pop on blog and say hello :o) good luck to everyone from berkeley whose finishing up finals.. yay! almost done ... :o)
and the time after finals is always really fun right? hehe.. yeah, last saturday was fiona's birthday!! :o) yay! and coincidentally, i had just finished finals and projects and all and was able to spend that day with her.. mike, fi, yiyin and carson drove down and then we had dim sum with her family and then went bowling :o) the bowling alley had really cute animations when you bowled gutter balls (or big donuts as the girls called em :o) hehe..) .. yeah, it made you laugh and feel better about your bowl :o) hehe.. and then we had to say goodbye, since yiyin was flying home that evening (although she did offer me a spot in her big suitcase.. hehe.. )
good morning! :o) it's funny, i woke up at 7:30 to drive julie to her final, and being out in the cold woke me up and now i don't feel like sleeping more.. which is odddddd considering i finally finished this quarter up last night!! :o) it's celebratory and restful here at our apartment... we had a countdown going on on our white board and now it's just like.. over! hehe... it's almost hard to grasp :o) i keep thinking i should do work or something.. haha.. i guess that's just how nerdy i am/have become :o)
lisa and i had a fun night after i finished my paper and she came back from her final! we even had a guest, since david yeh happenned to be at lyman, and stopped by our place ... and i guess he stayed because we offered him lots of food (haha, and good company too i hope!) yeah, we baked chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin bread and watched "kate and leopald" :o) it was soooo cute..... leopald was like exactly the kind of chivalous, sensitive, gentleman that i think most girls dream about :o) but i don't think guys like that really exist today (not to be cynical, but the culture today just doesn't really breed that type of person i don't think :o) just like, the kind of "ladies" they had in the 1800s don't really exist today either, although i suspect that more girls dream about an old-fashioned gentleman, and less guys dream of an old-fashioned girl, but i guess i'd have no way to verify that suspicion :o) hehe..) but yeah, the movie really "hit the spot" (to quote mike hsieh... haha..) i really really wanted to watch it when it first came out, but *someone* (no names mentioned here!) thought the premise was dumb :o) hehe.. j/k, no hard feelings yeah? :o)
oooh... i also had dinner with cindy and harv last night :o) it was really yummy.. and my leftovers fed david yeh (else we would have had nothing in our fridge to offer him! hehe..) so yeah, welcome back cindy! :o) we missed ya lots toots! hehe..
okie dokie, so since i'm up! haha.. i'm doing laundry and i think i'm going to go for a run (after like 3 weeks of near-sedentary living! i think studying is somehow correlated to muscle atrophy.. :o) yet another of jenn's random, unverified theories of life..
oops, almost forgot! :o) my roommate lis shared this site with me the other day and i thought it was suuuper cute :o) check it out if you're looking for a quick break :o) it's supposed to be a flash animated version of the children's book "bembo's zoo" (by roberto de vicq de comptich, supposedly a children's classic, though i have to admit i hadn't seen it before a few days ago :o) hehe..)
i'm soooo close to being done for the quarter!! hehe... yay! :o) i have to say, having a hard quarter or a hard semester really makes the being-done-with-it-all soo much more elating :o) haha.. so yesterday, i had my only final, and my big research project presentation, and here i am! i made it past december 11th and even lived to tell the tale and everything! :o)
so yes, i am ALMOST done.. just have to write a paper today :o) it feels almost relaxing writing this paper, because i think my mind is half on break already.. i've been taking lots of breaks to check different online sites and search of christmas presents for people :o) hehe.. but yes, it's supposed to be 8 pages, and i'm on the top of my second.. not tooooo shabby i spose :o) i've told myself that i can get lunch after i finish this next section, so hopefully that's soon, since i'm getting kinda hungrrrry ... hehe...
anyways, for everyone else whose studying and working hard to finish up, take heart! keep going, have faith in God to bring you through, and it'll all be over soo soon.. :o) and as a last word of encouragement, "commit to the lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." (proverbs 16:3)
wow.. it's 4 am already! it's crazy how late it can get sometimes ... :o)
but i'm still really awake! i think it's from the pearl milk tea i had tonight.. my roommate lisa and i are big pearl milk tea drinkers.. yup yup, we tapioca people stick together.. hehehe :o) (ooooh btw, check out her website linked to the left.. it's really cute and has a very *christmas-seasonal* flair to it :o) anyways.... she made tapioca tonight! for our own pearl milk teas! but.. in an effort to make the *tea* flavor really distinct and not watery, we made realllllly strong tea... haha.. just left the tea bag in there till it was pretty black!! i mean, the tea was great and all, but i definitely think that that has something to do with my alertness at this hour! :o)
oh.. and last but not least (although it is definitely the most recent thing that i've done... even MORE recent since it hasn't even happenned yet!) albert is graciously cooking a good home-cooked meal for an otherwise potentially starving student :o) haha.. i'm not that potentially starving, but it makes the offer seem so much more generous :o) yummm... mmm.. it's hamburger helper too! my favorite of albert's dishes.... :o)
okie dokie, and a little update on me :o)
despite the fact that i had been stressing out like madly and feeling like i didn't have enough time to finish stuff before the quarter ended, i had a really good weekend :o) i guess i'm learning how to not let school dictate my entire life; and to really enjoy the little pockets of fun/time off that i get to have :o) this weekend was extra special because i got to spend some time with old friends, some of whom i hadn't seen in a realllly realllllllllllly long time.. and it was all kinda spontaneous and unplanned and really, i dunno, just really great i guess :o)
ian had been in the bay area since the summer, working in folsom (that's sacramento for those who don't know.. haha, i would have had no idea like a year ago myself :o) but i've been busy with school and he's been busy climbing mountains almost every weekend :o) hehe.. but this friday, we got to get together and we went to this really cute little cafe where the waiters/waitresses all sing! so there was live music and yummy food and good company. yeah, just can't go wrong with that combo :o) we also watched this kinda odd movie "13 conversations about one thing" .. umm.. i guess i would recommend it if you want to think about like happiness and luck and a bunch of other stuff that i still don't really understand yet :o)
oh, btw, a movie that i would tooooootally recommend is "my big fat greek wedding" :o) i watched that over thanksgiving break and it's really a winner in my book :o) not that my book is really a bestseller, but if you like cute movies, or like happy movies, or like movies that are a really good use of your time.. (can you sense my own bias?! haha..) :o)
and then yesterday night, unexpectedly, i learned that david and mary an were in the area! visiting their cousin/aunt/uncle in belmont (that's south sf.. yeah, all the random places in the bay area are coming down in this one blog post! haha..) and so i got to spend a little time with THEM too! i hadn't seen mary since she left for scotland last winter break! that's december 2001 people! :o) and plus, i'd never even met their cousin steve before! hehe.. so we all had oodles to catch up on, lots of tangents like "oh, i have to tell you about..." in our conversation (coincidentally at the same cafe as i had been to with ian just the night before! hehe.. well, not so coincidentally, since i had liked it so much... haha..)
yeah.. sounds like a fun filled weekend huh?! you'd never guess that i also spent over 15 hours working on a cs project, AND took my sister to the hospital (no fears, she should be okay after a second appointment tomorrow afternoon..) AND slept in AND.. oh well, i think that that's about it actually :o) it's amazing how much you can fit into a day when there are no more classes to go to! :o)
hmm.. so the default name for the commenting thing is "Shout Out" .. not that i have anything *against* shout-outs persay, but i guess i want something more unique :o) and less radio-station-DJ-ish :o) oh well, that might change, so stay tuned... oh! since we can do this now, i'd welcome any suggestions too :o) (let's put this commenting thing to use, i say! hehe..)
hey... i'm experimenting with adding a little comments thingie to my blog :o) i think it makes the whole blog thing more interactive :o)
hopefully it'll be available soon :o)
it's also a nice little break from doing my work ...... *shhh.. don't tell anyone...* hehe j/k! :o)
it's so sad... i just wrote a post that didn't get published and then i tried (dumb move on my part i guess!) to refresh the screen so that i could try to publish it again... but man o man, all that happenned is that i lost everything that i had typed :(
another blog, lost forever .... (haha.. how's THAT for melodrama?!)
okie dokie, well to summarize....
i wrote about this icky, old-orange-juice experience that julie, howard and i had this afternoon... most most *VIVID* lesson that i've ever had about keeping stuff in the fridge too long! haha... (i went into more "gory details" in my original post, but i'll spare you guys this time around :o) hehe... "gory details" is something one of my professors always says.. like after he presents a really complicated algorithm, he says "i'll spare you guys the more gory details", and i'm just like, "wow, wasn't that gory enough?!" hehe.. anyways, i guess i picked it up somehow!) but back to the oj situation.. it's funny because i always thought that my roommate lisa drank a lot of orange juice, and that she always replenished our fridge with more of it when she ran out (perhaps she thought the same of me) but it ended up being the same container of orange juice that we'd boughten like wayyyy early in the quarter :o) haha.. the expiration date was in october!! (i know, i know, you guys don't have to check your calendars.. it really IS december over here too :o)
and to end on a *brighter* note, i wanted to wish a happy big 2-0 to mel wong!! *blog hug* :o) the start of another great decade for you... ummm.. yeah... :o)
